Football Imposter: the party game for football fans
Football Imposter takes the classic imposter game and puts it on the pitch. Everyone in the group receives the same secret footballer, except one player, the imposter, who only knows that they are the odd one out. Each player gives a clue about the footballer, and the group has to spot who is bluffing.
It is the perfect game for match nights, watch parties and long trips with football-mad friends. You get to show off your football knowledge, argue about who really knows the player, and laugh at the imposter’s desperate guesses.
The game runs on our sister site FindTheImposter.com. Press the button above to play Football Imposter in a new tab and pass the phone.
How to play
- Open the game and choose the football players category, or retired football players for a legends round.
- Pass the phone. Each player looks privately. Everyone sees the same footballer, except the imposter.
- Give clues. One clue each: a club, a position, a trophy, a nickname, a celebration.
- Debate and vote. Who gave the clue that could fit any player? Vote them out.
- Reveal. The group wins if the imposter is caught; otherwise the imposter takes the round.
Clues that work
The best clues prove you know the player without handing the answer to the imposter. If the secret player is a famous striker, “scored in a final” is better than naming the club he plays for now. Former clubs, youth academies, shirt numbers, famous transfers and nicknames all make good clues. The more specific the fact, the harder it is for the imposter to fake.
How to win as the imposter
As the imposter, you have one advantage: you get to listen. Try to speak after two or three other players, work out the league or country from their clues, and give a clue that fits many players in that group, such as “fast on the counter” or “big in the Champions League”. If the group votes for someone else, you win. If you can work out the player’s name, you can steal the win even when caught.
Why fans love it
Football Imposter mixes two things fans love: showing what they know, and trash talk. A round takes only a couple of minutes, new players learn it instantly, and the pool of players is huge, from current superstars to retired legends. It is also a fun way to learn football history, because the clues often bring up stories and matches that younger players have never heard of.

Football Imposter tips
Use the second-best fact
Saying the player's current club gives the answer away. A former club, a shirt number or a nickname is proof you know the player without helping the imposter.
Imposter, stay general
Clues like "great in big games" or "strong left foot" fit many players. Listen to the first clues to guess the league or country.
Mix in retired legends
Choosing retired players makes the round harder for everyone, and gives older fans a chance to shine.
