What is a good CPS score?
CPS means clicks per second. With a normal click using one finger, most people land somewhere around 6 to 8 clicks per second over a short test. Special techniques used by some gamers, such as jitter clicking and butterfly clicking, can push the number much higher, although they are tiring and hard to sustain.
How the test works
Click the box as fast as you can. The five-second timer starts with your first click, and at the end your total is divided by five to give your clicks per second. Your best score is saved in your browser.
Clicking techniques
- Normal clicking: one finger, relaxed wrist. The most comfortable and consistent.
- Two-finger clicking: alternate your index and middle fingers on the same button. Easier to keep up than one fast finger.
- Jitter clicking: tense the arm slightly to make the finger vibrate. Fast, but tiring and not good for your hand over long periods.
- Butterfly clicking: two fingers tap the button alternately in a quick rhythm. Popular in some games, but some mice register it as double clicks.
Play it safe
Fast clicking uses small muscles hard. Keep sessions short, stop if you feel pain, and stretch your fingers and wrists afterwards. If you want a test that rewards control rather than raw speed, try the aim trainer.
